Have you tried using a DisplayPort connection instead of HDMI? You can try one of those converter dongles, however after re-reading your post I have a suspicion. The other component that could stick you is the HDMI port. So, when you go into Device Manager, you see the actual monitor listed, and not 'Generic" listed? If so, the correct "driver" is installed.

So yeah, both the drivers were installed and I've reinstalled them after I've read your post. (I know that all the screen settings can be changed via the screen it self). Don't know if that is normal or not? Was kinda thinking there would be a shortcut on the desktop for a menu so I could change settings for windows maybe.
